At St Catherine’s College, our Art, Craft, and Design curriculum is rooted in our mission to prepare students to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers locally, nationally, and globally. Through a rich and inspiring curriculum, we empower students to achieve their God-given potential by fostering creativity, independence, and self-worth, while developing the values of ambition, hard work, resilience, and responsibility.

Our curriculum aims to nurture a lifelong passion for the arts, enabling students to:

  • Express their creativity through a broad exploration of art, craft, and design techniques.
  • Build confidence and independence by mastering key artistic skills and applying them to diverse challenges.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the world through the study of a diverse range of artists, designers, and cultural influences.
  • Foster personal growth, encouraging students to reflect on their identity, ideas, and the impact of their work, and the work of others, on the wider community.

Through engaging projects, students explore a variety of media, materials, and methods. This hands-on approach develops their skill and control, enhances their technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and ability to think critically and imaginatively. Our curriculum is designed to celebrate individuality, promoting self-expression and respect for the perspectives of others.
We are committed to providing:

  • An inclusive and ambitious art and design curriculum, ensuring all students can access, enjoy, and excel in Art, Craft, and Design.
  • Opportunities for students to connect their learning to other subjects and the wider world, fostering an awareness of their perspective and future creative role as responsible global citizens.
  • A supportive environment where students feel valued and inspired to take creative risks, develop resilience, and celebrate their achievements.

By equipping students with transferable skills in creativity, visual literacy, communication, and critical thinking, we prepare them for success both within and beyond the arts. Our ultimate goal is to inspire students to appreciate the transformative power of Art, Craft, and Design as a force for personal and collective growth.
